Whereas the Security Council of the United Nations, by Resolution 632 of February 16, 1989, established under its authority a United Nations Transition Assistance Group (UNTAG) to verify, confirm and supervise Namibia’s transition to independence under the auspices of the United Nations; Whereas the Secretary General of the United Nations has asked Canada to provide military logistics and headquarters personnel for UNTAG, and Canada has undertaken to do so; And Whereas it appears advisable for Canada to verify, confirm and supervise Namibia’s transition to independence under the auspices of the United Nations in consequence of that Resolution; Therefore, Her Excellency the Governor General in Council, on the recommendation of the Minister of National Defence, pursuant to paragraph 31(1)(b)* of the National Defence Act, is pleased hereby to place on active service beyond Canada those (a) A
