Proclamation Declaring the Agreement on Social Security Between Canada and Jamaica in force June 3, 1983 SI /83-166 OLD AGE SECURITY ACT
A Proclamation Whereas section 22.3 of the Old Age Security Act, being chapter O-6 of the Revised Statutes of Canada, 1970, as amended provides as follows: And Whereas by Order in Council P.C. 1983-865 of March 24, 1983*, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, pursuant to section 22.3 of the said Act, declared the Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of Jamaica on Social Security signed at Kingston on January 10, 1983 to be in force; And Whereas subsections 22.4(1) and (2) of the said Act read as follows: And Whereas the said Order in Council was laid before Parliament on June 3, 1983; And Whereas no motion for the consideration of either House was filed pursuant to subsection 22.4(2) of the said Act before the twentieth sitting day after the said Order in Council was laid before Parliament; And Whereas pursuant to subsection 22.4(2) of the said Act, on the thirtieth sitting day after the said Order in Council was laid before Parliament, being June 3, 1983, the said Order came into force; And Whereas by Order in Council P.C. 1983-1973 of June 30, 1983**, His Excellency the Governor General in Council, pursuant to section 22.3 of the said Act, directed that a proclamation do issue giving notice that the said Agreement is in force as of June 3, 1983. Now Know You that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada, do by this Our Proclamation declare and direct that the Agreement on Social Security between the Government of Canada and the Government of Jamaica, signed at Kingston on January 10, 1983, a copy of which is attached hereto, which is declared to be in force by Order in Council P.C. 1983-865 of March 24, 1983* is in force effective upon, from and after the 3rd day of June, 1983. Of All Which Our Loving Subjects and all others whom these Presents may concern are hereby required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly. In Testimony Whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent and the Great Seal of Canada to be hereunto affixed. Witness: Our Right Trusty and Well-beloved Edward Richard Schreyer, Chancellor and Principal Companion of Our Order of Canada, Chancellor and Commander of Our Order of Military Merit upon whom We have conferred Our Canadian Forces’ Decoration, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada. To All to Whom these Presents shall come or whom the same may in anyway concern, Greeting : JOHN C. TAIT Deputy Attorney General A Proclamation Whereas, pursuant to Order in Council P.C. 1993-546 of March 23, 1993, the Governor in Council, declared that, in accordance with Letters between the High Commissioner for the British High Commission in Canada and the Minister of National Health and Welfare dated February 5, 1993, and February 12, 1993, respectively, the Agreement on Social Security between Jersey, Guernsey and Canada shall enter into force in Canada on the first day of the fourth month following the date upon which instruments of ratification are exchanged; And Whereas the said Order in Council was laid before Parliament on March 29, 1993; And Whereas, before the twentieth sitting day after the said Order in Council was laid before Parliament, no motion for the consideration of either House of Parliament to the effect that the said Order in Council be revoked was filed with the Speaker of the appropriate House pursuant to subsection 42(2) of the Old Age Security Act and, pursuant to that subsection, the said Order in Council came into force on the thirtieth sitting day after it was laid before Parliament, being June 1, 1993; And Whereas instruments of ratification were exchanged on September 1, 1993; And Whereas the said Agreement shall enter into force on January 1, 1994, being the first day of the fourth month following the date upon which the instruments of ratification were exchanged; And Whereas, by Order in Council P.C. 1993-2121 of December 15, 1993, the Governor in Council directed that a proclamation do issue giving notice that the Exchange of Letters constituting an Agreement on Social Security between Jersey, Guernsey and Canada, is in force in Canada as of January 1, 1994; Now Know You that We, by and with the advice of Our Privy Council for Canada, do by this Our Proclamation give notice that the Exchange of Letters constituting an Agreement on Social Security between Jersey, Guernsey and Canada, a copy of which is annexed hereto, is in force in Canada as of January 1, 1994. Of All Which Our Loving Subjects and all others whom these Presents may concern are hereby required to take notice and to govern themselves accordingly. In Testimony Whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patent and the Great Seal of Canada to be hereunto affixed.
