What is International Studies?
International studies typically refer to a specific University Degree and course which are tied-into the study of various political, social, cultural and economic issues that revolve around an international agenda. As a term, international studies can be more specifically defined as a contemporary and historical understanding of cultures, societies, systems of government and the relationships between them. As a result of the subject matter, the concepts of International Studies are strongly related to International Relations. That being said, International Relations will focus more directly on the relationship between countries, while International Studies may encompass a number of phenomena which are globally integrated and orientated. 
What is the Purpose of International Studies?
A number of educational institutions throughout the world have formulated International Study courses and degrees to engage studies with an increasing number of global issues and phenomena, which have risen as a result of increased globalization. As a result, a number of these degrees or educational programs will link interested students with employment opportunities; these roles require the application of knowledge gathered from international study courses. At a number of colleges or universities, International Studies will be offered in both undergraduate and postgraduate mediums. In regards to undergraduate programs, International Studies is typically regarded as part of an Art degree.
• International Studies is typically offered as either part of an arts degree or as a compliment to a specialist arts degree. As a result, prospective majors are permitted to select from a number of broad subjects that will often include the following subject matter:
o Political, social, cultural and economic relationships within the global system
o A review of the significance of foreign cultures, societies and systems of government
o Foreign diplomacy, policy and other mediums of interaction between the nations of the world
o The role of international business entities
o A study of foreign languages
o A historical overview regarding countries of focus
o The international movement of people as refugees, immigrants, workers, investors, businessmen, students and tourists
